Q When did Pope John Paul II visit Columbia?
Pope John Paul II visited Columbia on Friday, 11 September 1987, and stayed for five hours. He arrived on a TWA L-1011 dubbed "Shepherd One." His activities in the city included a parade along Assembly Street, a meeting with non-Catholic Christian leaders, a mass at St. Peter's Catholic Church, and appearances at the President's house at the USC Horseshoe and Williams-Brice Stadium. Columbia was the second stop a nine-city U.S. tour. It was the second U.S. trip for the Pope, the first having taken place in 1979.
