Ask a Librarian
Q How do I download a book to my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 so that I can read it offline? Android 4.1.2 system.
The OverDrive Media Console app is designed to read EPUB titles offline and is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy. You do not need an Internet connection to read ebooks in the app once you download a title. However you do need an Internet connection to use the OverDrive READ feature. You also can checkout and download Kindle books from OverDrive and read them on your device using the Kindle app. I have included instructions for this in the link below.
Once you are in the app, tap "Get Books" in the app menu to go to the Richland Library OverDrive site. There you can checkout or request titles and use the READ function in your online "Bookshelf." Next - select "Download" and choose "EPUB" from your bookshelf to download it to your Android. You will need to authenticate your Samsung Galaxy with an Adobe ID to open and read EPUB ebooks offline.
Finally, tap the app menu button (it typically looks like lines or dots in a row) and go to the OverDrive Media Console Bookshelf (it has a set of books as an icon). Tap a book cover to open a book and read it offline. I have linked to some helpful articles from OverDrive with screenshots.
