Q What is the history of the Palmetto Building on Main Street in Columbia?
The Palmetto Building at 1400 Main St., completed in 1913 at a cost of $300,000, was the tallest building in South Carolina at the time of its construction and one of the most stylish skyscrapers. It was listed in the National Register of historic places in 1980. In 2008 it was redeveloped as a Sheraton Hotel.
