Q Is it possible to clear my criminal record?
It is possible to clear your record of a minor or first-time offense, or a case of non-conviction (a not-guilty verdict or a charge that was either dismissed or not prosecuted) through a process known as expungement. Serious or violent crimes, such as armed robbery, cannot be expunged from your record. Application for expungement is made to the solicitor's office in the state circuit court representing the county in which the charges were filed. A solicitor's office can only recommend expungement, which must be approved by a judge to become effective. See the South Carolina Bar's Expungement FAQ page for more information.
