Your library can help you keep your finger on the pulse of what’s happening in your community. Whether it’s a panel discussion on key issues or an opportunity to share your thoughts with an elected official, Richland Library has you covered.

Community News

The Richland Library is teaming up with Richland County Council to help connect citizens with their neighbors and other community influencers at a series of meet and greets in January and February.

Residents will have the opportunity to meet the person who speaks for them on County Council and keep their finger on the pulse of what’s happening in their community. Events include:

Tonight at the Wheatley Library in Old Shandon, District 5 County Councilman Seth Rose will be having a meet and greet from 6:30-7:30. Councilman Rose's district stretches from Five Points to Shandon to Rosewood. He will be available to address any issues or concerns you have in the district. Light refreshments will be available during the program. Community Connections is a program supported by the Friends of the Richland Library.

Would you like tips about healthier and more fulfilling lives? Then this is the show for you! Come see Richland Library staff members at the 2013 Savvy Seniors, where there will be cooking class demos, exercise classes, touring and excursion opportunities and much more.

You'll also have the chance to visit a number of other Richland County Departments such as Solid Waste, CASA, Probate Court, Animal Care and Public Works. This is an event you won't want to miss, and admission is free!

It was a beautiful, sunny morning complemented by a gentle cool breeze; the perfect weather for a unique walking tour of Downtown Columbia where we would learn about life on the streets from the perspective of those who have lived it.

On June 1st, Richland Library will join IT-oLogy, EdVenture and the Columbia Museum of Art in the South Carolina Day of Civic Hacking.

SCDoCH is part of a national event that seeks to bring together citizens, software developers and entrepreneurs to collaboratively create digital tools that solve community challenges using publicly accessible data and code.
