I’m Saving Money, So Why Invest?

Like Suze Orman recommends in The Money Class, I live beneath my means and any money that I don’t spend by the end of the month, I put it into a savings account and pretend like it doesn’t exist unless a financial emergency arises. Saving is one way to build wealth, slowly, but I’m quite comfortable with that. When I think about other ways to make my money work for me, I always get terrified when I hear these two phrases: STOCKS and WALL STREET!

November 15 , 2012 by Bland L.On Wednesday 14 November, Governor Haley ordered enhanced security measures for the sixteen state agencies (including the Dept. of Revenue) that form her Cabinet. Their computer networks will be monitored by the Division of State Information Technology, with four employees assigned to 24/7 monitoring duties.
The Big Hack: South Carolina's Security Breach
November 6 , 2012 by Bland L.On Friday 26 October the news broke that the South Carolina Department of Revenue's tax records dating back to 1998 had been hacked by overseas cybercriminals, giving them access to some 3.8 million tax records, as well as 378,000 credit and debit card numbers. The security breach was all the more alarming because the Social Security numbers in the records were not encrypted. The following week state officials revealed that the tax records of up to 657,000 businesses had also been compromised. Security experts agree that this was the worst case of data theft committed against a state government in the nation's history.
South Carolina Hacked Information
November 24 , 2012On October 26th, the people of South Carolina were told that the Department of Revenue had been hacked. Millions of tax returns and hundreds of thousands of credit/debt card numbers and business tax records were stolen.

For me, the more exciting benefit of this award was that it came with $100… then I found out that it was a $100 savings bond. I wasn’t going to have access to that money for YEARS? It had to GROW first?
