Do You Live for Applause?

I have always wanted to learn to dance: swing, ballet, ballroom...I want to learn them all. While some of my love of dance comes honestly (by way of folk dancing), much of it comes from the time I spent with my grandmother. We watched untold numbers of old movies together when I was a child. I was enthralled by Gene Kelly's bouyant, joyful movement and the way Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers exuded weightlessness and grace.

Are you interested in learning how to dance? We've got some great classes coming up. Teens can stop by Southeast on Saturday, October 12 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and Wednesday, October 23 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM for Move Your Mind: Modern Fundamentals and Step. Everyone is welcome at Main on Saturday, September 21 at 1:00 PM for Zumba! And if you want to Learn to Line Dance, Eastover has you covered on Thursday, September 12 at 6:30 PM!

If public demonstrations of rhythmic movement are not your thing, check out some of the books and DVDs in our collection.

Amazon Says: Throughout history and in contemporary times, people worldwide have danced to cope with the stresses of life. But how has dance helped people resist, reduce, and escape stress? What is it about dance that makes it a healing art? What insights can we gain from learning about others' use of dance across cultures and eras? Dancing for Health addresses these questions and explains the cognitive, emotional and physical dimensions of dance in a spectrum of stress management approaches. Designed for anyone interested in health and healing, Dancing for Health offers lessons learned from the experiences of people of different cultures and historical periods, as well as current knowledge, on how to resist, reduce, and dance away stress in the disquieting times of the 21st century.
