Are you ready to meditate? Learn the art of meditation at Richland Library.

The fourth program in Richland Library’s Eat Fit, Think Fit, Be Fit, Series is a meditation workshop conducted by Baba Seitu Amenwahsu. This program will be presented by him at the Bostick auditorium located on the garden level at Richland Main library on Tuesday, October 1st at 6:00 p.m.

If you have been curious about the art of meditation, if you think your brain needs more clarity, calm and concentration, do join us and get acquainted with this ancient mental technique which has been practiced since olden times as a component of numerous religious traditions and beliefs.

Meditation has been defined as a practice in which an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or as an end in itself. The English ‘meditation’ is derived from the Latin ‘meditatio’, from a verb ‘meditari’, meaning "to think, contemplate, devise, ponder”. Recent investigations of meditation have linked it to increased intelligence through physical growth of the brain. Researchers at Harvard, Yale, and MIT conducted brain scans that reveal an increased thickness in the parts of the brain that deal with attention and sensory input processing. Have I convinced you yet to get introduced to the practice of meditation? We want you to think fit and exercise your brain.

Baba Seitu Amenwahsu has been a practicing visual artist for over 35 years and a public school teacher for 24 years. His workshop includes a powerpoint presentation on meditation, learning breath control, guided meditation teaching, chanting and conclusion. Do wear comfortable clothes and feel free to bring a yoga mat and/or pillows.
