Bad Art/Movie Night: Summer Camp Edition
Summer Camp. Two words that, for many of us, invoke the nostalgia of campfires, s’mores, Popsicle stick art, cabins and mosquitoes. Some of us went to summer camps, others lived vicariously through the silver screen. For years, summer camps have provided the backdrop for a truly diverse collection of films. There is kid-friendly fare such as ‘The Parent Trap’, ‘Camp Nowhere’, the Nickelodeon series ‘Salute Your Shorts’ and our featured film ‘Heavyweights’ But, there were also the often silly, but definitely adult-oriented, horror series ‘Friday the 13th’ and the dozens of teens-in-danger-at-camp copycats that launched in its wake.
But, for 20 and 30 –somethings we’ve hearkening back to the glory days of summer camp flicks: the 1990s. We’ll be showing the Judd Apatow written classic “Heavyweights”. Released in 1995, Heavyweights stars Ben Stiller and some other people you may or may not recognize. Either way, if you’re around 20 or 30 years old, join us for some throwback fun as we watch “Heavyweights” and make some truly terrible art. We’ll provide the Popsicle sticks and art supplies. See you this Tuesday, June 24th at 7:00pm!
