Eat Fit, Think Fit, Be Fit Series at Richland Library

Wellness is first and foremost a choice to assume responsibility for the quality of your life. It begins with a conscious decision to shape a healthy lifestyle. Richland Library wants to assist you through the process by offering a series of six programs designed to help you Eat Fit, Think Fit, Be Fit.

On September 7,Yoga with Jane Patton - Wyatt, the first program in the series, offers you the opportunity to learn about the history of yoga, hear an explanation of the yoga philosophy and participate in a 45 minute beginner's flow class to explore how to develop your flexibility, strength, and balance. Ms. Patton - Wyatt has practiced yoga for 15 years and has been teaching classes for 7 years. She is RYT200 certified (meaning that she has completed at least 200 classroom hours in training). Ms. Patton - Wyatt teaches Vinyasa flow yoga. Currently she teaches classes at Stronghold Gym on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturday mornings at the Newberry Opera House. She is currently working toward her RYT500 certification.

The number of Americans who practice yoga has increased by nearly 30 percent in the past four years, according to the latest Yoga in America study, produced by Yoga Journal. Their 2008 survey accounted for 15.8 million yoga practitioners, but the latest figure shows that 20.4 million Americans are now practicing -- about 8.7 percent of U.S. adults. Scientific literature has shown that the health benefits of yoga can be obtained with a single weekly class.
