Learn fire safety at our How-To Festival!

Is your fire safety plan up to date? Do you change the battery in your smoke detector regularly, or do you just yank it out when it starts to beep in the middle of the night? Do you know how to identify and remediate common fire hazards in your home? Come to our How-To Festival and learn some fire safety tips from the Columbia Fire Department! They'll have a fire truck here to show and tell, too (always a big hit with the kids!)

November 9 from 10-2 the Main Library will be holding a How-To Festival with sessions on topics from tying a bow tie to creating a backyard habitat. There will be programs for all ages, so bring the whole family and learn to do something new!

Amazon Says: While out for a walk with her mom, a little girl has the surprise of her life -- she meets a real, live, fire-breathing dragon! Now this dragon is nothing to be afraid of -- in fact, he's so friendly that she invites him home for tea. But their afternoon snack is suddenly interrupted when the dragon sneezes and sets the table ablaze. Luckily, the girl knows just what to do, and she teaches her new friend to be fire smart, too. With its funny, rhyming verse and spunky illustrations, No Dragons for Tea shows kids that learning about fire safety doesn't have to be scary. The story ends with "The Dragon's Fire Safety Rhyme" -- a fun and easy way to remember what to do in case of fire. less...
