The Music of Anita Baker

Anita Baker enthusiasts were disheartened when the multi-Grammy winning songstress announced her farewell tour this year in celebration of her 60th birthday.  There was excitement about the possibility of seeing her live but dissappointment in knowing she might not release new music.  Ms. Baker's musical heyday was in the 1980's but her music has stood the test of time and is still popular amongst fans and stations that feature smooth jazz, contemporary R&B and quiet storm formats.  If your favorite Baker album is not currently available via our catalog, the library also makes it available 24/7 via our downloadable service, Hoopla.  Follow the link for the seminal work of Ms. Baker.

Local smooth jazz artist, Dante Lewis, is releasing new music, A Sweet Love: Tribute to Anita Baker, with a release party on May 11 but mark your calendar for Thursday, May 24, at 7:00 p.m. for his live performance at Main in our new Hampton Street Plaza. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket and kick back to a free family-oriented concert in our fresh new space!
