Women in Business Learning Series at Richland Library

As a woman, have you ever wondered about the benefits of starting a small business? Small business ownership appeals to women for many different reasons:

Generating higher income potential

Ability to work from home and have a flexible schedule

Pursuing a passion

Having an idea for a product or service that meets an unfulfilled need in the marketplace

Making your own decisions and creating a new lifestyle

Ability to be creative

Here are some facts that may surprise you. There are more than 10 million businesses owned by women, employing more than 13 million people and generating $1.9 trillion in sales. Not only that, women-led businesses are one of the fastest growing types of small businesses. In fact, the number of women-owned businesses has increased nearly 60 percent since 1997.

In addition to offering various print and online small business resources, the Business and Job Center at Richland Library is offering you the opportunity to learn more about female entrepreneurship through its Women in Business Learning Series on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. on October 2, 9, 16, and 23.

A transition into small business is a natural progression for countless women who have invested the first phase of their careers in large companies. Many mid-career women dream of starting their own businesses, but until now there hasn’t been a book that gives them the sense of multiple choice that helps them find the right entrepreneurial fit—options that go beyond starting a venture to include buying an independent business or a franchise, joining or consulting for small businesses, or working with partners. There’s a confusing array of how-to books out there with general advice about starting a business, conducting a job search, or balancing work and family.
