Criminal records often create a barrier to employment. As part of the Breaking Barriers Employment and Resource Fair, Richland Library will hold an expungement workshop. The workshop will go over the expungement process, including which types of charges can be expunged in South Carolina. The workshop will also talk about options like pardons for people who don’t qualify for an expungement. There will be time for questions during the workshop. A limited number of SLED background checks will be provided for attendees of the workshop, thanks to a grant from the United Way. After the workshop, there will be attorneys from SC Appleseed and SC Legal services who can talk to individuals one on one and review options. Individuals who register for the workshop will have the opportunity to receive a copy of their SLED background check free of charge. This will help attorneys and attendees make use of their time at the end of the workshop This initiative is being funded by a grant from the United Way. This service is provided to those who attend the workshop free of charge.
