The Kid's Chess Hour is an opportunity for kids of all levels to come together and play and learn the game of chess. Kid's hour is much the same as an adult chess club - but for kids. Sam Copeland (The reigning South Carolina champion and twice South Carolina's high school champion (2002 and 2003)) or another strong chess player will always be on hand to help coach and teach the kids. A difficult and riveting movie about race. We will be screening a double feature with the '34 version at 12:00 pm and the '59 at 2:30 pm. These screenings are part of Richland Library's Not Like Me film festival celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion. Join us as we explore the issues of race, immigration, and identity with local experts. For these screenings, we will hear from Alison Kozberg, Director of the Nickelodeon Theatre.Alison Kozberg is a film programmer, writer and educator from Los Angeles, CA. She holds a Masters Degree in Critical Studies in Cinematic Arts from the University of Southern California and has worked in repertory, art house and experimental film exhibition in Los Angeles, Boston and Minneapolis. She visited movie theaters and sampled al pastor tacos throughout the United States before arriving in Columbia, SC.

For this screening, we will hear from film expert Trey Lawson.Trey Lawson is a PhD student and instructor at University of South Carolina. He has earned MAs from University of South Carolina (Medieval & Renaissance English Literature) and New York University (Cinema Studies). He graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina Honors College with a BA in English and minors in theatre and film studies. While Trey’s current research is focused on Early Modern English drama, his cinematic interests include 1960s/1970s New Hollywood, cult and genre film, and genre theory.
