2014 Tax Season Countdown - Need Tax Help?
Taxpayers have until Tuesday, April 15, 2014, to file their taxes and pay any taxes due. That's just 1 week away.
Richland Library offers the following services that you may find helpful: access to tax forms (if you need special forms, such as the various Schedule forms, that we do not have on hand, we will print those out as a courtesy to customers), helpful books, and free computer and internet access.
If you need more hands on help completing your taxes you may want to take advantage of VITA, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, which the Cooperative Ministry and the United Way have partnered together to offer throughout the Midlands. “VITA is a program offering free tax preparation for Midlands’ residents with a household income of less than $50,000.” (Source: Cooperative Ministry). 2014 VITA locations and times, which can be found on the Cooperative Ministry's website which is linked here, are listed below. Updated to include recent changes in tax law! Are you paying more taxes than you have to? The IRS is certainly not going to tell you about a deduction you failed to take, and your accountant is not likely to take the time to ask you about every deduction you’re entitled to. As former IRS Commissioner Mark Everson admitted, “If you don’t claim it, you don’t get it. That’s money down the drain for millions of Americans.” This invaluable book, updated to reflect changes in tax law, not only lists the individual items that are deductible—from Internet domain name costs to theft losses—but also explains where to list them on your income tax form. “Tax law isn’t easy,” the author explains, “but this book is.” less...
