Are You Curious About Heaven?

Did you know that many people have written books about near death experiences and an account of their glimpse of heaven? Yeah, right! That is what the skeptics would say, maybe it was just a dream or hallucination! Even though I have not had such an experience myself I have read many books on this topic and I am fascinated by the common themes of seeing a blinding light at the end of a dark tunnel and experiencing a feeling of indescribable joy, peace and contentment. Two books on this topic Proof of Heaven and To Heaven and Back have been written by doctors, the former by a neurosurgeon and the latter by an orthopedic surgeon. Both of these doctors believe that they knew exactly what was going on in their comatose bodies while they got a taste of heaven.

In response to people who are not easily convinced that these stories are true how about books like Heaven Is For Real written about the experiences of a four year old boy who meets his dead baby sister in heaven, innocent four year olds cannot lie about these events! Nobody had ever told four year old Colton about his sister, but he informed his parents that he did meet her. His parents were totally amazed and dumbstruck with this information. The book also talks about Colton meeting his great grandfather who died 30 years before he was born. A movie of the same name, based on the book, is showing in theatres right now. Another book The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven talks about Alex, a six year old boy who is hospitalized after a horrific car accident. While in the hospital Alex was completely unconscious, but while he recuperates he is able to talk about events at the hospital, who all were there and what they were doing, and about meeting and talking to angels and God.

A recurring experience in most of these books is that a dead relative or friend comes to take you to the other side, there is a big orb of light, and you are overwhelmed with a feeling of tranquility and of being enveloped by deep love. This coincides with what my mom had told me when I was younger that when my dad passed away, she had felt the presence of my dead grandma who must have come to take her son to the other side. Heaven is described in these books as a place of incredible scenic beauty, where people are happy and joyous and there is a deep sense of calm and contentment.

I have lost some near and dear ones in my life so to read these books and know that those departed souls are in a better place surrounded by God’s all-encompassing love is a comforting experience.

God loves us dearly, we come into this earth through a tunnel (normal childbirth from mother’s womb) and we see light at the end and we probably leave earth in the same way. There will always be skeptics in this world but I choose to believe. If you are interested in this topic do read these books and decide for yourself….

Amazon Says: A young boy emerges from life-saving surgery with remarkable stories of his visit to heaven. Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear. Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us. Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle. less...

Amazon Says: A scientist’s case for the afterlife… Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. A highly trained neurosurgeon, Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion—and in essence makes us human—shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then, as his doctors considered stopping treatment, Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere. While his body lay in coma, Alexander journeyed beyond this world and encountered an angelic being who guided him into the deepest realms of super-physical existence. There he met, and spoke with, the Divine source of the universe itself. Alexander’s story is not a fantasy. Before he underwent his journey, he could not reconcile his knowledge of neuroscience with any belief in heaven, God, or the soul. Today Alexander is a doctor who believes that true health can be achieved only when we realize that God and the soul are real and that death is not the end of personal existence but only a transition. This story would be remarkable no matter who it happened to. That it happened to Dr. Alexander makes it revolutionary. No scientist or person of faith will be able to ignore it. Reading it will change your life. less...

Amazon Says: In 2004, Kevin Malarkey and his six-year-old son, Alex, suffered an horrific car accident. The impact from the crash paralyzed Alex—and medically speaking, it was unlikely that he could survive. “I think Alex has gone to be with Jesus,” a friend told the stricken dad. But two months later, Alex awoke from a coma with an incredible story to share. Of events at the accident scene and in the hospital while he was unconscious. Of the angels that took him through the gates of heaven itself. Of the unearthly music that sounded just terrible to a six-year-old. And, most amazing of all . . . Of meeting and talking to Jesus. The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven is the true story of an ordinary boy’s most extraordinary journey. As you see heaven and earth through Alex’s eyes, you’ll come away with new insights on miracles, life beyond this world, and the power of a father’s love. less...

Amazon Says: On April 28, 2006, as he lay in his hospital bed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, visions of celestial beauty were the last thing on Marv Besteman's mind. He had just had surgery to remove a rare pancreatic tumor. It was after visiting hours and his family had left for the day. Alone and racked with pain, Marv tossed and turned, wanting more than anything else to simply sleep and escape the misery and discomfort for a while. The retired banker, father, and grandfather had no idea he was about to get a short reprieve in the form of an experience he never could have imagined. In My Journey to Heaven, Marv Bestman shares the story of his experience of heaven with astounding detail. Readers will hear of his encounters with angels who accompanied him to the gate, his conversation (argument, really) with St. Peter, and his recognition of friends and family members who touched his life. His story offers peace, comfort, and encouragement to those who have lost loved ones and gives security and solace to those who are grieving, dying, or wonder about the afterlife. Marv believed God sent him back to earth to fulfill this mission of comfort and reminds readers that God has work for each of us to do before he calls us to be with him in heaven. Secure in his belief that his book was the fulfillment of his own mission, Marv returned to heaven in January 2012. less...

Amazon Says: Someday soon, one of my precious three-year-old twins is going to ask me the question “Mommy, what happened to you when you died?” Someday they will overhear me telling my story to someone and want to know more about it. They will look at me with their big, innocent eyes and try to make sense of what they’re hearing. It isn’t always easy explaining what happened even to adults, so how am I going to explain it to my kids? There is so much I want to share with them, so much I want them to know. You see, my story is one of hope and forgiveness and salvation, and of the glorious healing power of God’s presence. It’s the story of what I saw and what I learned when, during a hospital stay, I left my body for nine minutes and went to heaven and stood before God. And it’s the story of how, when I came back to Earth, my life was profoundly and permanently changed— changed down to the very core of my being. But it is also a story that, for the longest time, I didn’t want to tell. less...
