During the planning phase of Project Summer Stride, Family Nights were held at local elementary schools to recruit student participants. Participating schools were Hyatt Park, EE Taylor and Arden. Rising first and second grade students who participate in the Midlands Reading Consortium school tutoring program were eligible to apply.
Two Family Nights occurred, one at Arden and one at EE Taylor. At the events, families received information and applications for Project Summer Stride, as well as dinner for all in attendance.
The Family Nights proved important to the success of the program and helped spread the word about Project Summer Stride within the schools and surrounding community.
