Jenkins Orphanage Band

The Jenkins Orphanage, founded 1891 in Charleston, SC, was well known as a learning ground for many jazz musicians. Many of the donations accepted by founder, Rev. Daniel Jenkins, included instruments. Jenkins took advantage of the donations and brought in two local musicians to teach music to the students. At the turn of the twentieth century the Jenkins Orphanage Band toured the world playing jazz band music.
