Palmetto Compress

The Palmetto Compress is the only remaining cotton warehouse in Columbia. Compressing reduced the size of the cotton bales so it could be easily stored and shipped.

The four story brick building could store 50,000 bales of cotton. All floors in the building slope downward from the center in order to minimize water damage to the cotton bales in case of fire.
