Section 8 Waiting List Opens

The waiting list for the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program will be open for a lottery for one week in September. Section 8 offers rental assistance to persons with low-income who cannot afford current rental prices. From Monday, September 15 at 9am until Friday, September 19 at 5pm. There is no need to go to the Columbia Housing Authority office – all you need is a computer and a connection to the internet.

Apply online for free at: www.chasc.org . There are no paper applications this time. The application only requires your name, address, phone, and social security number. There is only one application allowed per person. It does not matter when an application is submitted during the week – all applications will have an equal chance to be put on the housing waiting list. Not everyone who applies will be put on the list. Applications will be randomly selected by a computer at the end of the enrollment period. Winners will be notified by mail in October.

Interested in applying? The Library can help! Visit Richland Library branches for computer and internet access to the applications and assistance from trained staff, if needed.

Remember: the sign-up period will only be open for 5 days! The last time the waiting list was opened was in 2008.
