Richland Library Welcomes Roberta Bibbins
Richland Library welcomes Roberta Bibbins as the library’s planning and projects manager. Bibbins will help plan, initiate and execute strategic projects and activities that help advance the Midlands.
With more than 15 years of diverse library and business experience, Bibbins most recently served as the Orangeburg County Library Director. Known throughout the Southeast for her enthusiastic and visionary leadership, she was named a 2013 Library Journal Mover and Shaker by the American Library Association.
“Today’s libraries are dynamic, customer focused organizations. We are changing more rapidly than ever and our staff’s skill sets are growing by leaps and bounds as they embed themselves into the communities they serve,” said Richland Library Executive Director Melanie Huggins. “Roberta’s energy and leadership experience will enable us to manage change and projects effectively, helping all of our staff make the most of their time and talents.”
Bibbins is a member of numerous professional library organizations such as the American Library Association and the South Carolina Library Association. She is also heavily involved in community initiatives and currently serves on the board of the Literacy 2030 Initiative for the Midlands.
“I’m looking forward to becoming part of the Midlands’ vibrant community,” said Bibbins. “Exploring everything Richland County has to offer from food to the arts to recreation will help the library build strong collaborations and partnerships with local organizations. My hope is that, together, we can make this community the heart of the Southeast.”
Richland Library’s 400 full and part-time staff work to provide outstanding library services and resources that help people find jobs, have success in school and explore new ideas and technologies. In addition to staff, more than 1,000 volunteers contribute nearly 23,000 hours of service each year.
