Happy Birthday, Sherlock Holmes!

Not every fictional character is given a fictional birthday, but as one of the most famous literary characters in the world, Sherlock Holmes, the great consulting detective, has his own designated date of birth. Every year the Baker Street Irregulars celebrate his birthday on January 6 at a gathering in New York City. You too can celebrate this special day by reading the stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle or one of the pastiches written by contemporary authors who create even more adventures for Holmes. You can also watch a variety of movies that depict Holmes in his original Victorian setting, in the 1940s, or even in the twenty first century.

If you are interested in reading and discussing some of the books written about Sherlock Holmes, the Keep Me in Suspense Book Group will be discussing A Study in Scarlet, by Arthur Conan Doyle on February 14, 2015 at 2:30 and on March 14, 2015 at 2:30, the group will discuss The Beekeeper’s Apprentice, by Laurie King.

Test your deductive reasoning skills by reading or watching the books and movies in the Richland Library collection that are listed here.
