See South Carolina

Through RCPL’s Request for Purchase service, I’ve recently requested several beautiful new books for our collection, after I saw reviews either in a magazine, journal, or on Amazon. My most recent orders, Litchfield Style, The Irish Country House, and England’s Hideaways, have just arrived. Full of color and ideas, these books are “eye candy” for us home and garden lovers.

Looking at the photographs of interiors and gardens that were inspired by America’s European heritage, I’m reminded of the treasury of historic homes, towns, and regions that we have in South Carolina. Of course, we have a large selection of books about our own beautiful sights in South Carolina. Check out the titles below to enjoy the sights in our own beautiful state.

Amazon Says: Follow the winding ways of the Congaree, the Broad and the Saluda through history, and learn how three splendid and historic waterways shaped the industries and communities of Columbia. The history of Columbia dates to 1786, when the South Carolina General Assembly moved the seat of government from Charleston to a plateau overlooking the Congaree River at the confluence of the Broad and Saluda. These three rivers helped transport people and goods, power textile mills, generate energy and support a growing community. Now, former industrial sites are giving way to recreational areas, and the heritage and natural beauty of the rivers emerge afresh. Author and photographer Vennie Deas-Moore captures both the beauty and the history of these waterways in this lovely volume. less...
