We’re seeking to hire a Richland Library Security Worker, Full-time!

Richland Library is seeking a skilled candidate to promote safety & security of library premises, property, customers & staff at the Main Library.

The ideal candidate has two years of recent security or law enforcement experience, is organized & able to communicate clearly & concisely, has a sharp mind & an eye for detail. This individual enjoys assisting others & ensures everyone’s safety on his/her watch.

A large portion of this job will be performed outdoors, where he/she will be maintaining physical neatness, orderliness, & safety of exterior grounds & areas in addition to the safety/security patrolling of such areas; seeking to prevent, as well as actively collecting & removing trash, damage, & unsightly appearance in such areas. Indoor safety/security work also is a regular & major part of the job.

    Here are some of the things you would be doing if hired for this position:

  • Patrolling all exterior & interior facilities & grounds to protect premises, property, & equipment; moving constantly & quickly between areas as appropriate, up to 8.5 hours per day; “facilities & grounds” include all exterior & interior areas of main library, including outside parking areas, walks, plazas, landscape, & vehicles; outside work involves a wide range of climate, including extremes of climate, “move constantly” entails primarily walking but also frequent stooping, bending, reaching, & stairs.

  • Carefully observing all unusual activities & behavior on library property, & responding appropriately; “observing” requires mobility, & adequate sight & hearing; “responding” involves decision-making, judgment, knowledge of policies & procedures, & communicating.

  • Responding to fire & burglar alarms after hours, when informed by alarm company, police, or supervisor; requires having immediately available, reliable transportation to the necessary locations.

  • Assisting customers & staff in emergency situations relating to security & safety, which may require: physical exertion, lifting, carrying, grasping, stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, seeing, & hearing.

  • Interpreting, communicating, & enforcing library policies, procedures, & rules to customers, security workers, & other staff.

  • Communicating information related to safety, security, & library-general information; presenting a positive image of the library to general public, which requires: speaking, hearing, judgment, tact, knowledge, job ability, & appropriate professional appearance.

  • Dealing effectively & appropriately with disorderly customers whenever necessary, including: effectively correcting or removing them, preventing harm to property or persons, & notifying law enforcement as appropriate; knowledge of policy & procedure; physical & mental abilities.

  • Providing appropriate security reports & records.

  • Assisting library staff in limited aspects of their job duties, as needed.

  • Providing security to other Library locations & special events, as needed & assigned.

  • Graduation from high school.
  • At least two years recent experience in security and/or law enforcement.
  • Supervisory experience desirable.
  • Drug free.
  • Ability to perform job duties.

  • Salary: $962.25 biweekly salary, plus benefits.

  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week: detailed schedule to be decided. Further
    information will be provided during interview.

  • (Job Classification Level 103) (FLSA Status: Non-Exempt)

    Main Library Hours of Operation: Sunday 2:00 – 6:00 pm; Monday – Thursday 9:00 am – 9:00 pm; Friday – Saturday 9:00 – 6:00 pm. Hours for the job may include some work before & after those times.

    ** Richland Library may change location & schedule of any library job.

    This job involves being “on the move” in our libraries: It will include standing, walking, crouching, stooping, squatting, twisting, climbing, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds, & lifting up to 25 pounds.
