On April 24, 1994 in Columbia, South Carolina the Richland County Alumnae Chapter (RCA) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was established by 44 exceptional charter members. From day one the chapter immediately started taking its place as a leader in the community by serving. The RCA Chapter's first community service projects were the Diabetes Walk-a-thon, Habitat for Humanities and the Carolina Children's Home Christmas Project.
In Fall of 1997, the chapter took on its first line of 25 members. Several lines have been inducted since then, each line consisting of phenomenal women who are committed to the sorority's core values of scholarship, leadership and service.
Since its establishment the chapter has continued to strive for excellence not only in promoting the values of the sorority, but also in the community. Every year Richland County Alumnae host their Mother & Daughter Relationship Conference to show daughters and mothers how to grow a healthy relationship with one another. The conference also promotes financial stability and teaches subjects on teen pregnancy and puberty. RCA has also sponsored programs such as the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy and Delta GEMS.
The chapter has always supported academic excellence. Therefore, in 1995 the chapter gave away their first scholarship in the amount of $300. In order to be able to provide more scholarships the chapter began holding their Annual Scholarship Gala. Every year after the Gala the scholarship amount increased, and now the chapter awards over $10,000 in scholarships to deserving high school seniors annually.
