The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America have announced their nominees for the 2012 Nebula Awards, the Ray Bradbury Award for Outstanding Dramatic Presentation and for the Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy.  The Award winners will be announced in May 2013.  In the meantime why don’t you give these fantastical books a read or watch some of these fun movies to see which one you think should win?   

One of my New Year's resolutions is to watch more foreign films. Believe me, I love fun and frivolous entertainment just as much as the next person, but it's time to expand my horizons. Ok, I can't completely stop watching The Inbetweeners--it's a real problem people.  Back to the point, I'm so lucky to have access to Richland Library and it's awesome foreign film collection and I can't wait to get started on this list!

Les Miserables won for the Best Musical or Comedy Film at the Golden Globes on January 13, 2013.  Check out some other great musicals on DVD here at the Richland Library.    And maybe have a listen to their soundtracks on CD as well!

What a year for animation! This year's Oscar race may be too close to call. Brave just won the Golden Globe, but I still think Tim Burton's Frankenweenie might have a chance (it would be Tim Burton's first Oscar). Hooray for Hollywood! The glitz, the glamour, and all of those deliciously painful live television moments. You know which ones I mean, the camera panning to an actor who's just been horribly insulted by the host. We'll see if Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are up to par with mean ol' Ricky Gervais. Oh, it's all too much for us!
