Superhero Supervillain Final Showdown: Endgame

We are finally at the end of a year-long project in debating "who would win?" in matters of less-than-noble beatdowns among superheroes and villains. What does it say that the final four are all heroic? Maybe these brackets are as much about spectacular violence as they are about our collective ideal in fiction, and who we would prefer to see "win" the hearts of audiences. More on that in a bit. For now, here are the final match-ups, the end result of two other combined brackets across and three Teen Center debate programs in 2014.

Great Gift Ideas for Your 12 and 13 Year-Olds

A new tablet? How about a smartphone? Shoes? Clothes? A gaming system? The wish lists of tweens can go on and on, but don't forget about the books. Books will still work when the power goes out. (Take that, Xbox.) Favorite books will be read again and again. Books can be shared. (Try sharing his smartphone...on second thought, don't!) Books give her the space to decide who she is and who she wants to be. Books empower with new ideas. Books allow him to know his own mind--what he thinks and feels.

Superheroes & Supervillains Final Showdown: Round Two

You can quit holding your breath - the second round of the Superheroes & Supervillains bracket is here! Following the first round, DC and Marvel's heroes and villains continue their combat across the world, with each location drawn at random and each battle won through argument and citation. There's only one more post in the series after this one, so place your bets and get ready to celebrate (or criticize!) how the second rounds ended.
