Walker Local History Room - Business as Usual

The Walker Local History Room is located on the third level of the Richland Library’s Main Library. Anne, Debbie and Margaret are available to guide your research during regular library hours.

Emphasis in the Walker Local History Room has been placed on collecting historical and family history information about the Midlands area of South Carolina, including Richland, Lexington, Kershaw, Newberry, Fairfield, Orangeburg, Sumter and Calhoun counties. The collection continues to grow through library funding and generous donations from our community.

While the print collection does not circulate, there are many resources available online. Local history photographs, an obituary index, oral histories are all available online. Many more resources including the Columbia city directories and the Confederate Rolls are available in the Local History Digital Library.

You don't have to have southern ancestry to use the resources in the Walker Local History Room. Richland Library provides patrons with access to many genealogy databases. We are a FamilySearch affiliate which means customers can order microfilm through the Family History catalog and request that it be sent to the Walker Local History Room. The library's circulating collection includes books about multicultural research, online genealogy resources and many others.
