Q How do I get a library card?
Library cards are free for residents and property owners in Richland County, South Carolina, and available for an annual fee of $65 for anyone else. Special rates exist for out-of-county residents who are members of the military stationed in Columbia temporarily, teachers in Richland County schools, owners or directors of child care facilities located in Richland County and employees of Richland County Government. You can apply for a Richland Library card at any of our eleven locations or apply online. For an out-of-county card, apply online or call (803) 929-3441.
If you would like to check out materials right away, bring along a photo ID showing your Richland County address when you come to register. If your ID does not list a Richland County address bring along a bill, lease or other official document that will show proof of residency. If your ID does not have your current Richland County address and you do not have any other documentation you can be issued a Courtesy Card with limited borrowing privileges.
Once you have your Richland Library card you will be able to check out 60 items at a time and download ebooks or audiobooks, magazines, and music from our website. On-line applicants will receive a card number by email. You can use that immediately for online resources, or come in to one of our eleven locations to receive a physical card. You also will be able to access our numerous research tools from outside the library any time of day. Join the Richland Library and access freely.
