Mini-Retreat: Gazing at Nature in Landscapes

Stretch the legs of your spirit and fill the lungs of your soul.

Give your brain a rest on this Mini-Retreat.
Take a moment to explore, to bask in, and to celebrate the beauties of the natural world we call our planet Earth.

For this Mini-Retreat, we’re traveling into the details and depths of some painted landscapes in the NTS collection (Compliments of the National Trust for Scotland). You’ve heard of that mindfulness concept of “Being There” and of “Being in the Moment”. Well, here is your chance to try that out. To really give it a go.

Through these three videos you can explore and experience the exquisite visual details of three unique scenes in nature. And I mean the DETAILS.

While you gaze at a placid lake, at rolling hills, and at a rocky coastal cove, the narrator will give you a personal audio tour of the colors, the textures, the tones, and the nuance of these slices of the natural world as seen through artists' eyes.

Ready to slow down, breathe, and rest a moment? Just sit back, relax, and have a good long gaze at this natural beauty.

*Click on the second two videos to see their actual landscapes.

"As an oar anchors the small craft against the river bank the water ripples gently from its hull, imperceptibly stirring the surface."

Outlet of Loch Achray, Waller Hugh Paton, National Trust for Scotland collection at Fyvie Castle. (8min 18sec)

"A warm wind lifts the storm clouds in the distance, they swoop down and gently roll towards us."

Hampstead Heath, Follower of John Constable, National Trust for Scotland collection at Hill of Tarvit Mansion & Garden. (4min, 26sec)

"We enter the cove in the afternoon. The sun soaked rocks warm to touch. The air is humid with a light breeze on our faces."

The Coast at Boddam, unknown artist, National Trust for Scotland collection at Haddo House. (6min, 21sec)

These lovely and poetic tours are from one video created, developed, and presented by the National Trust for Scotland as part of its vast virtual collection of Stories. This Story is that of Relaxing Trust Landscapes. (If you're curious about the ASMR in the upper left of the videos, have a look here.)
