My quest to become the Ultimate Outsider continues. Last time I talked about visiting all the state parks along the coast. This time we are taking a trip to the mountains.
The South Carolina upstate is a lot different than the Lowcountry, and it shows in all 14 of the state parks. They do not have sandy shorelines or hatching sea turtles (which I really want to go see in October), but the mountains do have calm lakes and some trails that lead to some of the Upstate’s best views. With 38 parks to go, I'm on my way to becoming the Ultimate Outsider. Welcome back to Explore the 47.
A few weeks ago, I talked about the state parks along the coast with some of the best beaches in South Carolina. Today, I will give you my five favorite state parks in the mountain region of the “Official Guide to South Carolina State Parks.” Greenville and Spartanburg are home to some amazing state parks like Paris Mountain and Croft, and their surrounding areas contain more hidden gems.
1. Devils Fork State Park

You will need an entire day to enjoy and explore the secret treasures of Devils Fork. From hidden waterfalls, the iconic Oconee Bell flowers, or Lake Jocassee, this state park will tire you out in the best way possible.
2. Croft State Park

With over twenty miles of BMX trails, you can really feel the need for speed here at Croft. To make it even better, you can take one of these trails to Lake Craig and enjoy some of the Upstate’s best fishing spots.
3. Table Rock State Park

Wanna see and feel what it is like to be 3,000 feet high in elevation, well Table Rock is your place to be. With trails that lead you to some of the Upstate’s most popular waterfalls, Table Rock will not disappoint you in every turn, there is something new waiting to be seen.
4. Lake Hartwell State Park

The adventures you will have here are endless. One of the Upstate’s best parks to attend with over a thousand people per month, Lake Hartwell is the perfect opportunity for fishing, hiking, or just catching the sun along the 56,000 acres on the lake.
5. Caesars Head State Park

If you ever want to see all the upstate in one setting, I present to you Caesars Head State Park. With an overview that includes Greenville, Pickens, the Blue Ridge Escarpment, two waterfalls and a few eagles' nests. This park will leave you breathless from all the amazing views.
But wait there's more...
