"Books build empathy. Empathy leads to compassion. Compassion leads to change. Books can change the world." - Alan Gratz
To conclude the "Celebrating Black Pride" blog series, I thought that it would be important to include a book list of youth collection titles that feature Black LGBTQIA+ characters, Black LGBTQIA+ writers, and/or books about Black LGBTQIA+ historical figures. Books are the windows and doors to gaining insight to the experiences of others. Engagement with experiences unlike our own helps us build a greater sense of understanding, a true sense of empathy. While not an exhaustive list, the following 50+ titles are a great place to begin for all youth and their families. The books range in genre and target age audience, but capture the importance of recognizing the intersection of race, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Enjoy!
