Design a beautiful card for someone you care about using the art technique Paper Quilling. This craft only requires a few materials and is very fun to create. Designing a card using this technique allows you to give the person you care about a unique creation. Also, this is a great activity for all ages.

What is Paper Quilling?

Paper Quilling is the art of rolling strips of colorful paper into a coil. The rolled paper is then glued to a larger piece of paper in the shape of a design.

Materials Needed:

  • Paper for making thin strips (construction, card stock, or printer paper)
  • Scissors
  • Long thin rolling tool (I used a thin paint brush)
  • Pencil and ruler
  • Glue

Step One:

Cut long strips of paper. For this craft I used 3/4 inch wide strips of colorful card stock. I recommend not cutting strips wider than 1 inch.rolled paper

Step Two:

To coil the paper, you will need a thin quilling tool. I used the end of a narrow paint brush as my quilling tool. Begin by wrapping one end of the paper around the quilling tool until all the paper is rolled. This can be a long process. I recommend listening to a good audiobook while making your craft.single rolled paper

Step Three:

Lightly draw a simple design on a folded piece of paper. For this craft, I created a heart.

Step Four:

Fill in your sketched out drawing with glue, then add your quilled paper to the glue shape. Allow your artwork to dry for a few hours. After it is completely dry, write a message inside the card and you are all done.

"Jane Jenkins explains quilling techniques from closed loose coils to fringed flowers, with step-by-step photographs for clarity. She has designed a beautiful project to go with each technique so that new quillers can build their skills while producing quilled works of art. She shows how to make Art Nouveau and fantasy figures, Victorian fans, butterflies, candlestick holders and more. The beautiful, intricate and delicate filigreed patterns and pictures she creates are original and unique - and guaranteed to get you 'rolling'."--provided by Amazon.com.
