Celebrating the Coretta Scott King Awards: Carole Boston Weatherford and the Our Voice Exhibit

Celebrate the Coretta Scott King Book Awards with a talk by author Carole Boston Weatherford and guided tours of the Our Voice art exhibit.
Join us for a celebration of the Coretta Scott King Book Awards with an engaging presentation by author Carole Boston Weatherford. Her presentation will be followed by a book sale and signing. Afterwards, enjoy an in-depth look at the Our Voice: Celebrating the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards exhibit at Richland Library and the Columbia Museum of Art.
This event is made possible by the African American Studies Department at USC and held in partnership with the Columbia Museum of Art.
Carole Boston Weatherford is the award-winning author of many books for children, including Freedom in Congo Square and Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom. Her books have received three Caldecott Honors, two NAACP Image Awards, an SCBWI Golden Kite Award, and a Coretta Scott King Author Honor.
Our Voice: Celebrating the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards is an exhibit of picture book art from the NCCIL Museum which includes artwork from books that have won the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award over the past 50 years. The CSK awards are given annually to outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values. The exhibit will be on display at Richland Library and the Columbia Museum of Art from February 15 – April 26, 2019.
