Jill Criswell, author of the young adult historical fantasy Beasts of the Frozen Sun (Blackstone Publishing) and writing instructor at USC Upstate, will lead a writing workshop focusing on world-building strategies. Geared toward writers of fantasy and sci-fi, but applicable for writers in all genres, the workshop will start by looking at world-building best practices and specific examples from bestselling authors. This will be followed by a writing exercise where participants will have time to write a sketch of a world or character they could use in a story. Participants will get a chance to share and discuss their sketches and to ask the author questions.
