We're providing an opportunity for local residents to be civically engaged by chatting with members of Richland County Council.
Get to know Councilmember Gretchen Barron, who represents District 7, and learn more about what's happening in Richland County. It's your chance to have a one-on-one conversation, ask questions and share concerns.
Call the Richland County Clerk of Council's Office at 803-576-2068 and secure your spot ahead of time, or visit our Northeast location on the designated date and sign up for an individual meeting. Each meeting is slated for 10 minutes.

Gretchen Barron represents District 7, which includes Blythewood, Killian and various sections of North Columbia. Barron has been engaged in educational program implementation and management for nearly 20 years. Barron owns and operates Purposed Vision Consulting, LLC. Its primary function is to assist new and existing organizations to successfully navigate in developing a foundation that will align with its program and financial needs. In 2005, she established Barron Academy, which provides after-school programs, summer camps and one-on-one tutoring primarily to high-poverty, low-performing schools in South Carolina.
Barron has served as a local educator; as interim state administrator for the S.C. Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program; and as assistant director of program development and grants at the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice, a consultant for the U.S. Department of Education and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. In 2017, Barron was appointed by Richland County Council to serve on the board of directors for the Greater Columbia Community Relations Council, which she serves as Education Chair. Barron has been an active member of Right Direction Church International for more than 16 years.
She is married to the love of her life, James Barron Sr., and is the mother of two sons, James Lionel II and Hilton Chase.
