Latinx Book Club meets once a month. Each month we focus on a different book written by a Latinx author. This month we will read “Washington Black” by Esi Edugyan.
“It is an inspiring story of freedom and self-discovery.” Wrote about the book the Time magazine.
Titch traveled to Barbados and asks his brother, who is slave owner to loan him one slave for his great project: a hot-air balloon launch. Titch picks little Wash, because the boy is about the right weight to provide ballast for the flight. A bond formed between them and when a bounty was placed on the slave’s head (Washington), they traveled around the world.
When you read the book you can rethink what really “love” and “friendship” mean.
