Meet the Author: Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Award-winning, New York Times bestselling author Silvia Moreno-Garcia will discuss her recent works as part of Richland Library's Broader Bookshelf program. The author talk will be followed by a reception, book sale, and book signing.
The Broader Bookshelf Reading Challenge encourages readers to expand their bookshelves and seek out new authors and challenging subjects. Ms. Moreno-Garcia will talk about her novels The Bewitching, The Seventh Veil of Salome, Silver Nitrate and The Daughter of Dr. Moreau. Ms. Moreno-Garcia's work responds to the 2025 Broader Bookshelf prompt "Read a fantasy, horror, mystery, romance, science fiction, or thriller novel by a BIPOC author." The author talk will be moderated by author and USC faculty member Claire Jiménez.
This is an after-hours event and registration is not required. The library will close as usual at 6:00 p.m. and will reopen at 6:30 p.m. for attendees of Meet the Author: Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

About the Author:
Mexican by birth, Canadian by inclination. Silvia Moreno-Garcia is the author of a number of critically acclaimed novels, including Gods of Jade and Shadow (Sunburst Award for Excellence in Canadian Literature of the Fantastic, Ignyte Award), Mexican Gothic (Locus Award, British Fantasy Award, Pacific Northwest Book Award, Aurora Award, Goodreads Award), Velvet Was the Night (finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the Macavity Award), and her
She has edited several anthologies, including She Walks in Shadows (World Fantasy Award winner, published in the USA as Cthulhu’s Daughters). Silvia is the publisher of Innsmouth Free Press. Her fiction has appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies.
She has an MA in Science and Technology Studies from the University of British Columbia. She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
About the Moderator:
Claire Jiménez is a Puerto Rican writer who grew up in Brooklyn and Staten Island, New York. She is the author of the short story collection Staten Island Stories (Johns Hopkins Press, 2019) and What Happened to Ruthy Ramirez (Grand Central, 2023), which was awarded the 2024 Pen/Faulkner Award for fiction. She received her M.F.A. from Vanderbilt University and her PhD in English with specializations in Ethnic Studies and Digital Humanities from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. In 2019, she co-founded the Puerto Rican Literature Project, a digital archive documenting the lives and work of hundreds of Puerto Rican writers from over the last century. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of English and African American Studies at the University of South Carolina.
