“I mention her name and the old pain returns. Forget her, you say? How can you forget a living human being?”― Sholom Aleichem
So that we never forget--Richland Library in partnership with The Anne Frank Center--has curated this list of true stories from the Holocaust. These stories represent people who would have been the same age as Anne and who also confronted the one of the darkest moments in modern history. Share these books with your middle grade readers so that you can have important conversations about history, about hate and most importantly about hope.
The Anne Frank Center at USC brings to life the story of the young Jewish girl who – in the pages of her world-renowned diary – documented two years of hiding in German-occupied Amsterdam during World War II. By sharing Anne's legacy with visitors, students and teachers, the Anne Frank Center seeks to inspire our commitment to never be bystanders but instead to stand up together against antisemitism, bigotry and inequality wherever it may exist today.
The University of South Carolina is the Official U.S. Partner of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, and the only partner site in North America. The Anne Frank Center offers guided tours of its exhibition; tours can be booked on its website.
The Anne Frank Center is proud to work with Richland Library, encouraging all readers to remember and reflect on this International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
