Let's make an activated charcoal mask to help cleanse our faces!
Before we get started you might be asking...What is activated charcoal? Well, it's a black orderless powder that has been treated with oxygen at high temperatures which makes it more porous. The porosity of the activated charcoal makes it effective at absorbing toxins and flushing them out. Now that you know a little more about activated charcoal let's get started!
Items Needed:
- Plastic Bowl
- Non-Toxic School Glue
- Activated Charcoal capsules or powder (I use capsules)
- Plastic Spoon or Wooden Chopstick
- Small plastic container - optional
- Facial brush – optional
Instructions:
- Start with a clean face and hands. You don’t want the charcoal competing with the dirt and oils sitting on the top/outside of your face. The point of this is to clean/absorb the oils and dirt from the inside of your skin and not make it hard for the product to do what it is intended to do. Think of it like water and oil not mixing.
- Pour non-toxic school glue into a bowl. The amount depends on how much you need for your face or if you are making extra for another use.
- Ever so carefully pour the Activated Charcoal powder from the capsule into the bowl of glue. I use four capsules of powders to the amount of glue I use.
- Stir ingredients gently to avoid powder making a mess. While stirring, your mixture should be a beautiful dark gray with the consistency of fudge brownie batter but just a tad bit thinner. You don’t want the mixture too thick or too thin.
- Use a facial brush, plastic spoon, wooden chopsticks, or clean finger to apply on your face.
- Tip:
- Make sure not to get the mask on the delicate undereye skin and not on the hairs you want to keep.
- Tip:
- When the mask starts to dry it will start to darken in color. That’s chemistry at work and this is the power of the “activated” progress. When the mask becomes hard and not sticky or tacky, you can begin to peel it off gently.
- Once the mask is off you can see the yuck that came from your skin. You do not need to wash your skin. Just put on your favorite moisturizer or pimple cream.
- Tip:
- Use this mask when needed. Also, if you have some mixture left over, use small containers to put leftovers in for later use.
- Tip:
There are so many variations to the mask recipe. I have found this recipe to be effective for me and I believe it will be effective for you too. If you have found another variation for this mask recipe that you know works, please share it with me. I just might give it a try!
