As we get to the end of the scavenger hunt, we get to see what makes an Ultimate Outsider one of the best when it comes to their knowledge about a state park. Last blog, I was in 50th place with 161 points, which means that I am going to be one of the few who are qualified to win the grand prize. Welcome back to The Quest for 200: The Ultimate Scavenger Hunt.
By the time you are reading this, I will have completed the scavenger hunt and am now waiting to see if I won the grand prize. This has been a wonderful experience. I have learned so much about what an Ultimate Outsider does for South Carolina State Parks and how rewarding it can be. These final clues were some of the hardest in the scavenger hunt. From a first ever program, a strong tree, the highest selfie I ever took, and some flowers that are in season for only a month, these are the clues that got me over 200 points.
In the Sky
Putting on an event is hard--especially if it is the first of its kind! Seeing all types of animals and flags up in the sky and on the beach was amazing. Even if parking is hard to find, this event is worth it.
Still Standing
Since 1941, this tree has been though every major hurricane that ever came across South Carolina. From Tropical Storm Bob to Hurricane Dorina, it still holds the title as oldest living thing at any state park.
Taking It to New Heights
A picture will always say a thousand words. This picture says that any place is a beautiful place in South Carolina, even inside a rain cloud. Now what part of the Upstate am I facing?
Ready, Exercise
If you still want to complete your New Year’s weight goals but don’t want to go to the gym, may I offer a place? The drive is long, but there is no line to use any of the equipment and there is a relaxing view when you are done. And if you need a little extra cardio, the 1.5-mile course should do the trick.
Pancratium fluitan
Only in season between mid-May through mid-June, this is a one-of-a-kind treat that we get to see here in South Carolina. Try to get there early, or you will have to wait in line like the thousands of others who come to experience this view.
Take a guess of what I am looking for in these photos.
As of today, I am tied for 1st place with 226 points. Overall, this was a challenging experience. For my first year as an Ultimate Outsider and completing this hunt, it was everything I hoped for and more. From meeting new people, seeing how park rangers interact with customers and Ultimate Outsiders alike, and finding places that no one thought were in South Carolina, this gets the official “Safety Keith Stamp of Approval.” Until next time everyone.
If you or anyone you know wants to become an Ultimate Outsider, grab a SC State Park Backpack from Richland Library, and explore the 47.
