The Financial Literacy book review series #FinLit recommends thought-provoking books about money, investing, and personal finance. This post is about How To Money by Jean Chatzky, Kathryn Tuggle, and Nina Cosford.
There are a lot of all-in-one financial literacy books. Many of them repeat the same advice and are written for the latest wave of readers who need someone to teach them the basics of handling money. Every so often, though, one of those advice books stands apart from the crowd and is easier to recommend because of its fresh approach and voice. How To Money is one of those books.
The biggest strength of this book is in its variety of approaches to each subject. Jean Chatzky and Kathryn Tuggle's clear, relatable writing tells you useful facts and advice about budgeting, employment, credit, debt, and investing. Illustrator Nina Cosford brings visual variety in the form of illustrations, diagrams, and charts to make each subject easier to understand, such as the parts of a credit card or check, or the risk profile of different investments. Better yet, each chapter includes a brief interview with a different accomplished woman and her perspective on financial success.
How To Money is a great book for young adults and, honestly, anyone looking for a financial refresher from experts who talk to the reader like a human being. The authors share even more advice on their blog, HerMoney. Make no mistake, though! As the authors say in their foreword:
Money isn't pink or blue, it's green... We're seeking to level the playing field for financial confidence and power across all genders.
