Looking to serve the family a nostalgic meal during the holidays?
Do you remember congealed salads and stuffed vegetables? What about desserts with candied cherries and Cool Whip? Hey, don't knock them until you try them!
Recipes for a classic dinner menu were selected from the Richland County Extension Homemakers Christmas 1988 cookbook, found in the Walker Local and Family History Center’s local cookbook collection.
HAWAIIAN GOLDEN SALAD (page 53)
1-#2 can crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup golden Hawaiian punch
11/2 pkgs. orange-pineapple gelatin
1 cup American cheese, grated
1 cup pecans, broken
1-8 oz. jar Maraschino cherries
1 cup miniature marshmallows
1 cup whipped cream
Bring juice drained from pineapple and Hawaiian punch to a boil. Stir in gelatin until thoroughly dissolved. Cool. Add pineapple, cheese, nuts, cherries and marshmallows. Refrigerate until mixture begins to thicken. Fold in whipped cream and chill until firm. Serves 10.

BURGER STUFFED PEPPERS (page 31)
1/2 lb. ground beef
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
3/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 teasp. salt
1 cup cooked rice
4 green peppers
1/2 cup tomato sauce
Brown beef and add onion; cook until tender. Stir in rice, Worcestershire, salt and tomato sauce. Remove stem center of peppers. Drop in boiling water for 1 minute. Spoon beef mixture into peppers. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes.

CHEESE BISCUIT (page 3)
2 1/2 c. plain flour
1/2 lb. sharp cheese, grated
1 tsp. salt
1/2 lb. margarine, softened
1 tsp. sugar
Cream cheese and margarine. Add flour, salt and sugar. Mix together gradually. Put in cookie press. Bake at 425 degrees for about 10 minutes.
May be frozen.

ICE CREAM CAKE (Page 12)
30 of your favorite cookies, crushed
1/2 cup melted margarine or butter
Combine and press in a 13 X 9 inch pan
Spread with 1/2 gallon of your favorite ice cream.
Top with cool whip, coconut, cherries and nuts.
Store in freezer and take out 5 minutes before serving.
