Fun Home
A New Broadway Musical
Bronxville, NY : PS Classics, [2015]
Format: Music CD
Description: 1 audio disc ; 4 3/4 in. + 1 booklet (34 unnumbered pages : color illustrations ; 12 cm)
With book and lyrics by Lisa Kron (Well, 2.5 Minute Ride) and music by Jeanine Tesori (Shrek the Musical, Violet), Fun Home was based on an autobiographical graphic novel by Alison Bechdel that explores issues of family, self-discovery, and coming-of-age sexuality. Showcasing a tender, introspective song selection and small-ensemble pit orchestra, the musical premiered off Broadway at the Public Theater in October 2013, and an original cast recording was made two months later and released by PS Classics in early 2014. The production moved to Broadway in the spring of 2015, and this Broadway cast album was recorded with only a few cast changes, including Emily Skeggs instead of Alexandra Socha as Medium Alison, and released by PS Classics in May 2015. Retaining the original production's leads Beth Malone and Michael Cerveris, the Broadway version went on to win Tony Awards for best musical, book, score, lead actor Cerveris, and stage director Sam Gold. ~ Marcy Donelson
