Kitwanda “Kiki” Cyrus is the co- owner of Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles, located in Columbia, SC. Growing up in Charleston, SC, Kiki learned how to cook and develop unique recipes from her mother and grandmother. In May 2009, Kiki Cyrus graduated from the University of South Carolina, Darla Moore School of Business with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and a minor in Sports and Entertainment management. While attending USC, Kiki was able to learn the ins and outs of running a restaurant, by working at a local Columbia restaurant for a number of years. On August 18, 2012, Kiki and her husband, Tyrone Cyrus, opened its doors as the first restaurant dedicated to serving the famed chicken and waffles dish in the Midlands. And has been serving delicious, homemade soul food dishes to raving customers since. After opening Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles, Kiki and her husband had to expand the restaurant and add more seats, to decrease their customer’s wait time on the weekends. In 2014, Kiki’s added a food truck to their business, so that they can be mobile for festivals, weddings, birthday parties, and many other events. Furthermore, Kiki was chosen as Columbia’s 2014 Top Women of Influence by the Southeast Small Business Magazine. In August 2015, Kiki’s partnered with Centerplate to serve chicken and waffles and other menu items in the Colonial Life Arena for USC men’s and women’s basketball games, as well as some concerts and events. In February 2016, Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles relocated their restaurant to a stand-alone building that seats twice the size of the previous location. In December 2017, Kiki Cyrus was selected to serve as one of the four South Carolina Chef Ambassadors for the 2018 year. Being chosen as chef ambassador, she has had the opportunity to represent the entire state at many events, including being on a panel with Racheal Ray as she discussed Women taking over the food world. Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles is also featured in the 2019 March issue of Rachael Ray’s Everyday Magazine. Kiki and her husband opened their 2nd location off of Bower Parkway, next to the Columbiana Grande movie theater in 2019.
