We are proud to offer a unique collection of print and digital materials for customers interested in genealogy and local history--for the state of South Carolina and especially the Midlands.
Thanks to the library's robust digital collection, regional news and obituary resources, customers around the world can research their family history and historic local people, places and events.
Walk-in researchers welcome. You can also Book an Appointment for local history and genealogy research assistance. Obituary research can be done remotely using the Request an Obituary form.
Do you have books or items to donate? The Walker Local & Family History Center is seeking donations of items of local significance such as:
Local high school yearbooks
Photographs of local places or people
Funeral Programs or Obituaries
Books about local history
Family histories with South Carolina ties
Church histories with local or South Carolina ties
Booklets, pamphlets, menus, postcards, programs and other items from local events, businesses, schools, or organizations
Hesitant to donate? Schedule a scanning session to have your unique items scanned and returned to you. Scanned materials will be added to the Local History Digital Collections. Contact the Local History manager with questions about donations or to schedule a scanning appointment.
If you have non-local items to donate, please consider donating to the Richland Library Friends and Foundation.
We look forward to seeing you in the Walker Local and Family History Center!
