Meet the Author: Tim O'Brien
Friday, November 30, 2018 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Spend some time with this year's featured One Book, One Community author
American novelist, National Book Award winner, and Pulitzer Prize finalist Tim O'Brien will discuss this year's One Book, One Community selection The Things They Carried -- the classic collection of linked short stories based on O'Brien's own Vietnam War experiences. Audience Q&A, book sale and signing, and reception to follow.
A classic work of American literature that has not stopped changing minds and lives since it burst onto the literary scene, The Things They Carried is a ground-breaking meditation on war, memory, imagination, and the redemptive power of storytelling. Hailed by The New York Times Book Review for capturing “the war's pulsating rhythms and nerve-racking dangers” O’Brien also “examines with sensitivity and insight the nature of courage and fear by questioning the role that imagination plays in helping to form our memories and our own versions of the truth.”
This is an after-hours event. The library will close at 6:00 p.m. and re-open at 6:30 p.m. for Meet the Author: Tim O'Brien
