Our Interlibrary loan service is a great way to gain access to books or materials from libraries outside of Richland Library.
Any Richland Library cardholder* who is 18 years or older and in good standing can request up to four items at one time.
Items available via interlibrary loan include:
• Adult and Children’s fiction and nonfiction books
• Journal articles
(Items not available for interlibrary loan include materials already owned by Richland Library; repair manuals and exam books; recorded books and feature films.)
*Courtesy cardholders are not eligible to make interlibrary loan requests at this time.
Pick up & Return:
A notification will be sent out by phone or email when the item(s) arrive. Materials can be picked up from the hold shelf and must be checked out with the library card used to place the request.
To ensure that your interlibrary loan item(s) can be checked in, please return Interlibrary Loan materials with original paperwork inside to a Richland Library staff member, rather than to an outside book drop.
To begin a renewal request of an interlibrary loan item, please e-mail ILL@richlandlibrary.com or call (803) 929-3400 at least one week ahead of the due date. When the renewal request has been approved by the lending library, we will provide you with the new due date.
Check out Period: 3 weeks
Richland Library pays the postage fee for customers but there may be an additional lending fee charged by the lending libraries.
No overdue fees are charged on late interlibrary loan items. However, customers are responsible for the replacement cost of items that are damaged or lost.
How long can it take to get ILL items? Response time from other libraries is variable and may take up to several weeks but we do our best to get interlibrary loan requests as quickly as possible.
