DIY Storytimes are curated storytimes that families can share at home with an ebook, songs and activities.
A BOOK TO SHARE:
Tiny T. Rex and the Impossible Hug by Jonathan Stutzman
available as an ebook through Hoopla
Tiny T. Rex is worried about his best friend, Pointy. He isn't feeling well and he knows exactly what he needs. A hug. Tiny knows he’s not the best at giving them because he has small arms so he asks his family for some advice.
After gathering all the information he needs, he is determined to master the skill and make Pointy feel better.
A very charming and warm story about determination, self-discovery and friendship.

Mail a Hug (3 Options)
Create a Portrait Hug using butcher block paper (or a deconstructed paper bag) paints, markers or crayons from www.theleangreenbean.com.
A recycled cereal box, scissors, glue and paint or crayons come together to make this Heart Hug from www.notimeforflashcards.com. (If you don't have googly eyes, draw them, use stickers or paper.)
Using just paper and scissors, you can sew this hug from www.who-arted.com and make it a family project. (No sewing machine? You can use yarn or ribbon to connect the hands.)
Whose Hug? Game
Think Charades but with hugs.
- Each family member thinks of an animal. (Don't say the name of your animal.)
- Pick someone to go first. That person will hug each family member like their animal. (Ex. A chicken hug might have some pecks and clucks. A kitty hug might have meows and purrs.)
- Take turns guessing the animal.
- The person that guesses correctly gets to go next.
- Keep playing until you're all hugged out.
Me Too Game
This game allows you to learn the likes and dislikes of your family members plus free hugs!
- Each family member thinks of something they like.
- Pick someone to go first. That person will say what they like. (Ex. I like chocolate ice cream. Or I love dogs.)
- If the other family members also like chocolate ice cream or dogs, instead of saying they like it, they will hug that person.
- After everyone has a turn saying something they like, start over and try sharing things they don't like.
- Play again with likes or dislikes whichever you prefer.
